| One of our own was honored yesterday by the King of Prussia Rotary Club as their 2026 Firefighter of the Year!
Firefighter Melissa Guziewicz has served the Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company since 1997 and is beginning her 30th year of service. For much of that time, she has served as the company treasurer while also contributing in other positions to the Upper Merion Township Fire & EMS Department.
Melissa’s greatest impact, however, has been her dedication to fire prevention and community education. She helped establish Swedesburg’s Fire Prevention Expo in 1999. What began as a small event has grown into one of Montgomery County’s largest fire prevention programs, attracting more than 1,000 residents each year.
She has also coordinated fire prevention programs in local schools and daycares, managed the company’s Robert F. Little Fire Prevention Award submissions for more than two decades, and helped launch the company’s smoke detector program in partnership with the American Red Cross.
Chief Jerry Recupido said, “Our community is safer because of her and her drive for fire education and safety.”
For nearly 30 years, Melissa has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to her fire company and her community. We are proud of Melissa being honored as the 2026 King of Prussia Rotary Club Firefighter of the Year! |
