From Monday March 30th to Monday April 6th, members of Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company responded to 29 emergency calls. Part of this was due to the week of the 30th being our turn in the weekly Township Duty Crew program that staffs the station from 6:00PM till 6:00 AM Monday-Friday, as well as all day Saturday and Sunday, to answer calls in Upper Merion Township and surrounding communities when requested. Calls included two working dwellings fires, two working car fires, a technical rescue, a vehicle into a house, four reported building fires, two traffic accidents, seven fire alarms, and ten other types of calls. Of those responses, there were five significant incidents that crews responded too.

Monday March 30th, at approximately 8:30 PM a dwelling fire was dispatched for the 500 block of General Steuben Rd. First arriving companies had a fire in the basement of the dwelling. Squirt 56 arrived and was assigned to assist with primary and secondary searches of the residence. Rescue 56-3 assisted by refilling SCBA cylinders, Safety 56-3 was assigned as a division supervisor and Assistant 56-3 assisted at the command post.

Friday April 3rd, at approximately 6:45 PM, units were dispatched to the 500 block of Britton Dr. for a vehicle into a building. Crews arrived to find a parked car that had rolled into an attached garage. Crews checked the home for any issues before clearing. There were no injuries reported.

Saturday April 4th, around 9:40 AM a vehicle fire was dispatched at the King Of Prussia Service Plaza on the Eastbound side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Squirt 56 arrived first to a well involved SUV. Crews stretched a hand line and extinguished the same. Squad 56 assisted with the overhaul of the SUV.

Sunday April 5th at 9:15 PM crews were dispatched to the King of Prussia Mall for a vehicle fire inside one of the parking garage’s. Engine 56 arrived first and extinguished the fire. Squirt 56 arrived and stood by as the second due engine incase a water supply was needed before being released by command.

Monday April 6th at 10:00 PM a dwelling fire was reported on the 300 Block of Prince Frederick St. Deputy 56-1 arrived to confirm a working kitchen fire. Assistant 56-3 arrived soon after completing a 360 for command and took the Charle side supervisor position. Squirt 56 arrived as the second due engine making sure Squad 56 had a water supply. Crews from the Squirt and Rescue 56-3 assisted with various roles in the fire ground. Traffic 56 and 56 Fire Police also responded and assisted with traffic control. Crews cleared in a little over an hour and a half.

Finally on Tuesday April 7th, a Rescue assignment was dispatched at the Republic Services facility on Saulin Blvd. A worker had become trapped in one of the machines during maintenance. Rescue 56-3 responded with a crew of five. Crews from Upper Merion worked along side Montgomery County USAR for three hours to free the patient. Job well done by all on a tough rescue!
