At this past Thursdays Township Board of Directors Meeting, members of the Upper Merion Public Safety Department were recognized for their life saving efforts over the past year. Five members of Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company were recognized for their efforts on November 7th , 2025.

While responding to another call, Squirt 56 with a crew of five were redirected to YSC Sports for a male in cardiac arrest. Bystanders at the gym began early CPR and used an AED to deliver one shock prior to Police’s arrival. Upper Merion Police took over CPR, upon Upper Merion EMS and Squirt 56’s arrival, advanced cardiac life support was administered. The patient did briefly regain consciousness before going back into cardiac arrest. The patient was transported to the hospital where they underwent emergency surgery and has made a full recovery.

We would like to congratulate the following members on their life saving effort that day,

Deputy Chief Jerry Recupido
Firefighter John Direnzo
Firefighter Christopher Epps
Firefighter Brandon Pearson
Firefighter Sydney Skarbek

Congratulations to all Upper Merion Public Safety members for your hard work and dedication to protecting and serving the Residents and visitors of Upper Merion Township day in and day out!
