Last night shortly after 6:00 PM, Swedesburg Vol. Fire Co. and Engine 56-1 (King of Prussia Vol. Fire Co.) who was operating as the Township duty crew, were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries. Upper Merion Township Police Department came across a vehicle that had crashed off the Pennsylvania Turnpike and had came to rest on the adjacent embankment along the 200 Blk. of Hansen Access Rd. Deputy 56-3 (Recupido) and Engine 56-1 arrived on scene along with Medic units from 356. It was quickly determined that the patient was confined inside the vehicle and the assignment was upgraded to a Vehicle Rescue as Rescue 56-3 arrived. Crews worked to stabilize the vehicle and preform a roof flap to allow safe removal of the trapped patient. The rescue was completed by the 20 minute mark. Medic 356 (Professional Association of Upper Merion EMS) transported the patient to an area trauma center for treatment. Crews remained on scene until Pennsylvania State Police concluded their investigation and the vehicle was removed from the scene. Good teamwork by all last night!
